Patrice and I rode to work together and it was the beginning of a new friendship. She was down to earth. She smoked a lot of marijuana so we had that in common. She was a good mother to her children; she didn’t smoke around them and she made sure they were left in good hands when she was at work or going out. We had that in common, too. We were kindred spirits and we built a bond that would last the rest of our lives. Things were looking up for me. James and I were getting along better. He apologized for the way that he acted when I was pregnant. He said that he wanted to be there for me and my boys. Pee loved him like he was his own father. James was the only father figure that he knew and I don’t think that Pee realized that James wasn’t his real father. James was working for a plant called West Point Stevens, so financially we were doing well.
